Harriet (Minty) Tubman “SPEAKS” Truth From Beyond

Harriet2

YOU.MUST.EXPERIENCE.UNDERGROUND’S.S2:E6! YOU MUST. I don’t recall a time where I ever sat in my home and clapped after watching something on television. At a venue. But, not in my home. By myself. This after witnessing the amazing and profound performance of Aisha Hinds portraying Harriet Tubman and speaking of Harriet’s journey… GOODNESS! It occurred during an episode of Underground (episode 6 of season 2) on WGN America. It was as if I was magically transported back in time or at the very least to a Broadway theater’s one-woman performance. Aisha had to make Mama Harriet proud with her resonating, educational, standing ovation and worthy of awards winning performance. And, overall, Underground is a great show. http://www.wgnamerica.com/series/underground

Harriet

Harriet5Here’s an article interviewing Aisha about the intensity of this episode from receiving the script (one week before shooting nearly an hour of dialogue) to delivery. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/12/arts/television/underground-harriet-tubman-aisha-hinds-interview.html

Lessons were abounding from this episode:

-Good can always come from a broken heart. Harriet came back for her husband, but Harriet3what she really came back to is the beginning of a movement called The Underground Railroad. Cry. Grieve. Mourn. But, also listen. Where you’re really supposed to be will be revealed.

-Your vision is your vision. Everyone will not have the same vision as you. Doesn’t make them wrong. It just means you will need enough courage to walk the road to your purpose with yourself or run the risk of getting dragged down by those not in alignment. This is until your steps are divinely ordered to the person(s) who too feel, taste, and smell the vision. And/or until those previously left behind conquer their fears and are ready to climb on board to their freedom. Respect and not judge another’s vision.

-Speaking of which, one’s freedom may not look the same as yours. Your lane is your lane. We all have our life’s experiences that will determine how freedom resonates. Your freedom could be your ability to finally purchase your dream home. Someone else’s freedom could be the first time purchasing a cart full of healthy (with a few snacks) groceries for them and/or their family.

-The soul speaks hope to the spirit. Hope is essential to succeeding. The moment we stop believing is the moment we begin to suffocate and drown in our sorrow, therefore killing our spirit. However, with hope must come action. You have to listen to where you’re being guided and then act. God and your Gangsta Angels will guide you and protect you. Believe and then proceed with grace and gratitude.

-Lead with intention. This includes being purposeful, detailed, yet careful when requesting your desires through prayer.

-Fear and pain are embedded in our DNA. They just are. The pain transferred from the blood from the whelps extending the length of our ancestor’s backs have carried on from generation to generation. We must continue to do whatever we can to break the chains and pave our way to freedom through our individual healing.

Harriet1

-Women who labeled as not being emotional, too strong, or too independent, are just trying their best to survive and thrive. It’s an extension of when they just couldn’t let them know they won. It’s an extension of having to fend for themselves and their families. They just need to know without a doubt that they can trust you. That they matter. That you will have their back. But, we too much heal our individual woes.

-Even in 2017, there will be those who will not want us/you to be free. We must all do what we can to ensure they don’t win. Doesn’t mean you have to march or lead a movement. It just means you should do what you can to ensure you are heard with the message that we/you matter. This is especially true in our personal lives, whether with our family, romantic, and platonic relationships. We have to be the captain of our faith. Our own Gangsta Cheerleader! The bonus, are those you will attract who will create that safe space for you to land, breathe, and BeDoLove.

Hope! Action! Freedom! Without them, they win. It’s time WE win! But first, it’s time YOU win! Because when you win, we all win. Namaste!

Surrendering = Freedom

It’s time to truly LIVE and LOVE. It’s time to surrender by releasing the fear. It’s time to release those things, thoughts, or people that you’ve latched on to all for the purpose of being right and wrongfully secure in your present ego induced suffering state. It’s okay though. I know you’re scared. I am too. No need for guilt or shame. We are all humans living a human experience.

But, it’s never too late. You are always being guided. Trust in the ordering of your footsteps. Silence the misguided voices. Listen to and trust the whispers angelically delivered to YOU for the purpose of empowering YOU to forgiveness of self and others. And, then spring into action to ultimately BE the masterpiece you were birthed to BE. As a child of God you are deserving. Please believe it. Please breathe it. Please BE it.

The time is now. Your time is now. My time is now. Our time is now for you are not alone. We can get there together. We can be free together. Surrender! Surrender! Surrender! Ashe. #BeDoLove #FindYourZen #SoulFULLPurpose

We Continue to Move: Honoring Margo Our Gangsta Angel

IMG_5820[1]“Time is not measured by the years that we live, but by the deeds that we do and the joys that we give.” –Helen Steiner Rice

The above quote resonates as it is displayed on the hospice wall where Margo Lynette Owens spent her days before making the transition to our beautiful angel.

After living a blessed 48 years on this earth, on March 22, 2012, God called Margo to live a glorious life of eternal peace and happiness with Him in Heaven above. And, although five years have passed, it still all feels like yesterday that we saw her smiling beautiful face and heard her sweet sweet voice.

Margo’s loving spirit touched many lives from Buffalo to Atlanta to Alabama to the DMV (Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia area). As a daughter, mother, sister, niece, aunt, cousin and loyal friend, Margo was that beautiful shining light many enjoyed. Immediately upon her entering any room, Margo energetically always filled the space with her cheerful smile, warm heart, loving hugs, a compassionate ear, silly wit, and profound knowledge.

Margo

Through the years as Margo battled colon cancer, she continued to inspire and touch many lives by her beautiful and courageous disposition and will to live and enjoy life, which was displayed even through the pain. She always saying to me “Kay don’t forget to let me know what events (friend gatherings) are going on.” And, scolding me when I didn’t. Lol

As a result of Margo’s love and passion for family, friends, and life, we continue to remember Margo and celebrate her life and in turn be inspired to live ours. Margo was an open vessel. She having a passion and love for people, music, dancing, food, travel, attending musicals and plays, and experiencing various cultures, including the Caribbean culture. But, she especially had a passion for loving and nurturing her beautiful children.

IMG_5823[1]This past Sunday, family and friends gathered to celebrate Margo’s life and the lives of many others who continue to fight the battle against colon cancer. We participated in the 12th Annual Scope It Out 5K Run/Walk held in Washington, DC at Freedom Plaza. And, although the day started out cold and rainy, our commitment was unwavering. Unwavering like Margo’s spirit. As the time ticked on with the use of hand warmers to defrost the fingers, the frost was soon replaced by the shining and warmth of the sun only in a way Margo could have helped to orchestrate. We walked and then we dined to continue in the tradition of how we use to roll and fellowship with Margo. Pre or post dining and drinkies always bonused with reminiscing and good laughs.

Margo, I’m sure I can speak for many when I say, thank you for being YOU and continuing to inspire us all to breathe life into our existence with the all-knowing that “Time is not measured by the years that we live, but by the deeds that we do and the joys that we give.” And, with that quote in mind, I’ll do my best to always be open, present, and obedient to the ordering of my footsteps. As I imagine myself calling you up to say “Gurl, let me tell you what happened!” And, I hear you speak and smile with encouragement, love, and pride.

Margo, Thank you for your authentic and unconditional angelic love then and for your Gangsta Angel flow now. Please keep visiting us. Especially during those times when life is troubling. Keep us safe. Keep loving us. Keep guiding us. Order our footsteps in the direction of our “SoulFULL Purpose”. We love and miss YOU, Margo! See you soon, as I’m sure you’ll be visiting me in my dreams soon. Please and thank you! Peace and Love! #BeDoLove #GangstaAngel #FindYourZen  #SoulFULLPurpose

Exhale and Experience the Beauty Before the Dawning of Spring – It’s Life or Death

It was a morning not like any ordinary morning. As I departed from home and began my drive to work, I neared the end of my block looking ahead and noticing a beautiful gray hue with a background of snow filled trees in the distance. Sure, we had experienced a snowmendous kind of Winter which included many life challenges with health, death, and uncertainty. This resulting in an anxious heavy suspension in the moment of inhaling and holding it and holding it until we enter the refreshing newness of Spring and the promise in all it may behold. However, this particular morning I experienced the beginning of my day through a longing and hopeful set of eyes. Startled by the beauty as I was actually surprised and caught off guard by it since I’ve been a bit clouded by life’s challenges and it’s sometimes gripping and painful hold. And, also consumed in the never ending grumblings of those declaring “I’m tired of this snow”.

As I continued on my drive I consciously remained present in my awareness of the beauty around me. All of a sudden I for a moment was driving through a ski resort type of town. Like Deep Creek or even perhaps Aspen minus the big hills and spacious never ending mountains. With the roads cleared up only how those locals can swoop down and do. It was my special Winter Wonderland, providing a feeling of calm. It was one of those serendipitous moments I was thankful for my long drive, able to continue to take IT all in as a drove down the highway with conversations of life’s ponderance (I think I made up a word).

Many were over the snow, but in that moment of starting my day it was a life or death moment for me to see the beauty of life. I really needed it as my spirit deserved that moment. It requiring to be fed and uplifted with the grace of God and beauty. And, for that I was so grateful.

So to you my lovelies, I say, keep your head up as the newness of Spring is just around the corner. As we anxiously await Spring’s cleansing sun rays and rain, the vibrancy of its colors, and the smell of fresh morning dew and budding flowers, plants, and trees, in this moment please do find the beauty of anything and everything. Stop, pause, and give IT your undivided attention. See IT! Smell IT! Touch IT! Feel IT! Hear IT! Taste IT! Breathe life to IT! Trust IT! Make love to IT! Love IT! And, purposefully breathe in and release a long and relaxing it will all be alright exhale. It’s life or death. Plus, it really will be ALRIGHT.

LIVE! BREATHE! GRATITUDE! GRACE! DIVINE ORDER! Wishing me and you Peace, Love, and Clarity! Namaste! #BeDoLove #FindYourZen #SoulFULLPurpose #JuicySweetSpot

“Get Out” is GEEET OOOUUT! – Support the Arts

get-out5

Soooooooo I was NOT going to see “Get Out” when I first saw the previews because it freaked me out. Black guy dating white gal. Visits her home where I can tell no good will come from it. Nope. Not doing it. Don’t ask. Not me. Especially in these upsetting times. You can check out the trailer and see for yourself. https://youtu.be/A2JbO9lnVLE.

The official synopsis of the movie is an African American man heads upstate to meet his white girlfriend’s parents at their mysterious estate for the first time.

I gave up horror type flicks in my late 20s. The nightmares I was experiencing got the best of me. Truth! But, “Get Out” is currently the talk of the town (and world) amongst my friends with “must go see” reviews. The movie had a budget of $4.5 million to create. And, it earned over $30 million in its first weekend when it opened in the U.S. on February 24, 2017. Good for them! I wouldn’t be surprised if earnings are over an impressive $50 million by now. With the reviews and blockbuster opening, my curiosity was piqued. Then I had a “WHO KNEW” moment when I found out this week that Jordan Peele wrote and directed this movie, which sealed the deal for me to brave it out. Knowing this is Peele of the coo coo for Cocoa Puffs “Key & Peele”, I imagined there would also be clever sillya$$ foolishness to provide balance. And, I love clever sillya$$ foolishness. Shout out to the TSA workers. Where would we be without you all? Oh, and of course Peele had to get the darkest beautiful richness (Daniel Kaluuya-One of those dudes who really has a British accent.) of the dark beautiful richness to play the lead role of Chris Washington (Not to be mistaken with the caramel beautiful richness of the Legendary Chris Washington who we Bison all know and love of my beloved Howard University.) It’s like they went out there to intentionally find the blackest dude they could find to be tormented by white people.

Well, I saw “Get Out” last night and I actually enjoyed it. I give the movie two snaps up and a circle. It was a chock full of suspenseful intense bizaroo fun. (In my Blaine and Antoine get-out4voice.) Mixed with an abundance of what would be considered “no you didn’t say that” racist dialogue. In an LA Times article, at the viewing of the film at this past 2017 Sundance, Peele stated “It was important to me for this movie not to be about this black guy going to the South, to a red state, where the presumption for a lot of people is that everybody’s racist there,” Peele told the audience. “This was really meant to take a stab at the liberal elite that tends to believe that they’re – we’re – above these things.”

get-outFrom the start of the movie I was intrigued and sitting on the edge of my seat and then sometimes as if the seat was my “sunken place” as I witnessed the waterfall shedding of “this ain’t no crying wolf” tears. Check it out if you dare. You’ll find reasons to chuckle a few times amidst the knots forming boulders in your stomach. You may need to sit in the theater for a bit to exhale and woosah. This is to avoid swinging on someone once you enter back into this politically charged climate where humanity is lost as folks are speaking with disrespect as if the swirling spoon served up a dose of truth serum for them.

get-out3And, remember that your gut/intuition is your best friend and guardian angel. Trust and believe when it speaks to you. And, proceed with a sense of urgency to GET OUT to avoid being sucked into the soul-depleting “sunken place”. Enjoy! Peace! At least that’s what I’m going to seek now. Some peace of mind. Maybe over a cup of hot soothing and spoon swirling tea. 😉 Goodness! #BeDoLove #SupportTheArts #BlackIsBeautiful  #BlackLivesMatter #FindYourZen  #SoulFULLPurpose

PS: The previews before the movie for “Girls Trip” looks like ratchet hilarity. I sure hope it’s not a dud. It would be a waste of the beautiful shades of talent. https://youtu.be/h5yWmweMdJc

UPDATE – Spoiler Alerts: Kind of interesting. “These are unconfirmed theories, but still so fun (and creepy!) to think about. ***SPOILERS ABOUND***” https://www.buzzfeed.com/erinchack/things-you-may-have-missed-in-get-out?utm_term=.rfERA7qwZ#.blJA35bWz
