Dayum Anthony – My True Fantasy Chef Confessions

I swoon and crush over celebrity chef. You know when people see their favorite artist, athlete, or actor in person and lose their mind? I’m like that with chefs (Not loud and kooky, but in my subtle way.). This is not only celebrities, but also my favorite local chefs. Peter Prime at Spark in DC is my new local chef crush. Please don’t tell him. I don’t want him to be weirded out when he sees me coming. SMILING!!! BIG!!! And, goofy. Oh, and that time I dated a chef and we lived together. JACKPOT!!! Talk about GOD and won’t he do it. (tee hee)

Chefs are our comforters, nurturers, teachers, connectors, and healers. They take care of us. As teachers, they challenge us to open up our palates. Although they may not be owners, they create a space to meet, exhale, and connect. They don’t know us, but they love us (Or they do know us and love us anyway. Lol). And, that love breathes life to our spirits through their culinary gifts. So we should always take moments to thank and appreciate our chefs. Whether sending your compliments to the chef through your server, a manager, or if you see them walking around.

As someone who loves to chef myself, I get it. I love creating a comfortable space in my home to be. And, then there’s that experience when my dining guest(s) taste something I’ve prepared and they get that look of “GURL! You put your foot in this”. You know that feeling when you’re dining out and taste pure deliciousness. Your tongue’s taste buds light up like water to a flower. Man, it’s amazing the feeling when seasonings, marinades, sauces, creams, or ingredients in a good bourbon or gin cocktail can rest on and ignite your tongue. It’s like, with that first bite or sip, without any control or thought your eyes shut and your shoulders sink slightly. Then you come back to life from your trip to heaven, taking a deep breathe as you’re now able to take it all in. Your eyes open slowly and you do that shaking your head back and forth like dayum. Now that my friend is about a 3 second quickie food orgasm. Goodness! I think I now need a cold shower.

So about Anthony Bourdain. My friend Rosetta hit me up one day and was like I can see you hanging and doing the show with Anthony. This was without her knowing how I dig him. As a lover of food, travel, adventure, intriguing storytelling, humanity and connection, I’ve fantasized many of times about traveling the world with Anthony Bourdain. In my fantasy world, he and I delighted in all things in the name of food, exploration, discussion, connection, and full on fun. Nights, where we would chill hard in some far off, in the cut, and beautiful land cussing and carrying on over a beer or cocktail in flip flops to the wee hours of the morning. Where he would come to DC with me first stalking him so I could meet him. Then dining and cocktailing as VIPs in my hood, while having fun and talking about life and where to next. Yep! I would do that. My drives to and from work with self can be very interesting. I never delighted in any of Anthony’s meals. I sure wish I had. But, I love how he opened up one’s palate to food and so much more to include being able to humbly and comfortably flow amongst many different people, environments, and cultures. Anybody know how I can get in touch with Gordon Ramsey?

I’m not going to go into a lot of talk about mental illness, depression, isolation, and suicide in this post. I’ll save that for the next. I just wanted to stop through and honor Anthony (and all chefs) and how much I thought of him and his talented, cool, sexy, fun, intelligent, and inspiring self. Man, he put the “SWAG” in “SWAGGALICIOUS”. But, of course. He was birthed in NYC after all. He seemed like a real and down to earth dude. Watching “Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown” was always a treat. The irony about the name of the show is the unknown parts of him many didn’t know and he struggled with.

Hearing of his suicidal death this morning on the news, the anger and disbelief was my first reaction. Me literally yelling out “WHAT THE FUCK?!?!” When I started writing this, the sadness started to set in and then it became therapeutic. I think I’m going to dine out this weekend (maybe I’ll cook something) and honor Anthony over what I pray is an eye rolling meal. And, clink a glass for him, love, life, humanity, eating, and living. Peace be unto you Anthony. Ya did good. Cheers! Peace be unto to you my friends and family. And, peace be unto me. Yeah, me too, as I am not immune to the struggle. And, wishing you all a yummylicious, fantasy filled, and dreams come true day, weekend, and life. Eat! Pray! Love! Namaste. #BeDoLove #Yummyliciousness #FindYourZen #BirthAndLiveYourSoulFULLPurpose #HealingEqualsFreedom #TherapyWorksIfYouWorkTherapy #AllRoadsLeadToMentalHealth

Update: I visited Urban Butcher in Silver Spring, MD for the first time yesterday. Their specialty is MEAAAATTT!!! They have a great happy hour menu. The bonus was, breathing in the fresh air after what is becoming the normal DMV rain rush from their open air bar. Cheered Bourdain over a refreshing Lavender Margarita. And, in true food exploration fashion I excitedly delighted in the Lamb Tartare w/Moroccan Spices served with Hummus and Grilled Flatbread. The Moroccan spices were everything with each bite. Although, it almost felt as if I was eating a raw lamb burger. Lol Which I will go back to try. And, you can’t go wrong with perfectly soft flatbread. And, CC and Liam at the bar provided welcoming, friendly, and attentive customer service. I’m a new fan of this spot. Cheers!

Lucky People & Dogs – Healing “The Sunken Place” Traumas

Since my early 20s, I’ve been in seeking and work mode to heal from my childhood to adulthood traumas. From writing to experiential trainings. To in recent years going the therapy route, deciding something new and different was worth a try. As I evolve, traumas planted in my DNA lay dormant just waiting for the next trigger and lesson. Understanding this with the goal of lessening the blow and keeping me from completely and endlessly traveling to “The Sunken Place”. Therefore, I’m always in seeker mode when I’m able to get out of my way and listen to where The Universe is guiding me for my next healing.

Interesting how these lessons can be learned from animals to include dogs. It’s where the divide or differences between animals and humans dissipate when we realize how much we’re really all alike in heart and mind.

Yesterday I watched a show called “Lucky Dog”. The story centered around a dog named Max with an opportunity to be placed with a family. An animal trainer and behaviorist, Brandon, was called in because Max, which is a miniature poodle, was being very aggressive towards larger dogs. Like yeah, I’m small but I’ll bite your head off aggressive. The balls this miniature poodle had.

The first day, Brandon placed Max in the same space with dogs of various sizes. Max played with the small dogs. However, he would bark and lunge at the big dogs. The good thing for Max is the big dogs were trained to not react and open a can of whoop ass on him. Brandon soon found out Max was previously bitten by a larger dog. So now all large dogs were enemy #1. I was tripping, because without fail, with the larger dogs he would take the stance of I’ll show you whose boss before you even think about hurting me. Thinking about how his trauma and fear could have manifested itself in a couple of ways. Either the proactive and defensive aggression he was displaying. Or, the opposite with being very docile. Sounds familiar?

Sometimes people can live their lives without understanding how previous life events to include conversations may be driving their sadness, depression, anger, mistrust, arrogance, aggression, defensive posture, how they treat others physically and/or emotionally… Or completely understanding and it doesn’t matter as they judge, blame, and shame everyone else for their unhealthy and projecting behavior.

The beauty about Max is he had someone loving and nurturing to provide tools and exercises for healing and freedom. Someone he could trust and who patiently helped Max learn to trust bigger dogs while embracing that they are all not the enemy.

We as humans must be as vigilant in our own healing. Acknowledging those things that hold us back from reaching our true potential is half the battle. The other half is seeking out the means, tools, or exercises to help deal and heal our traumas and effectively deal with the triggers. However, it’s not a one size fits all as what resonates for one may not for another. This is anything from journaling, therapy, experiential trainings, church, spiritual counseling, readings, AA and other type of like minded group meetings, addressing those who have victimized you, and the list can go on.

I’ve learned through time that I must stand up for and take responsibility for my healing. Projecting, being the victim, and blaming others for my woes only suffocates and holds me hostage and paralyzed to the pain and fear. Keeping me from being fully immersed and reaching my full passion and purpose potential. Me being that miniature poodle barking and reacting when the fear of perceived control and disrespect from another enters my all I really want is to be loved, heard, understood, and respected space.

How do you handle your traumas? Aggressively and always on the defense or in docile mode, allowing others to continue to violate you? Whatever it is, your life and heart depends on your healing. Your loved ones depend on your healing. Birthing your passion and purpose depend on your healing. Your joyful being depends on your healing. Doesn’t matter how you do it. Therapy or what is for you is for YOU! You may have to try a few things on for YOUR fit. But, don’t allow others to judge or negatively influence your healing choice as they project onto you. Find and attract your supportive tribe. You don’t and shouldn’t have to do it alone.

During the episode Brandon said “Max has to understand that all big dogs are not going to do what that one big dog in the past did to him”. Remember that we all need loving and nurturing Brandon’s in our lives to keep us out of “The Sunken Place”. Trust they are out there. One bad event or apple doesn’t spoil the whole bunch. And, remember that barking at or biting the hand that feeds or loves you never goes over well. The goal is to connect and engage. Not run them away. Happy Healing! For you are love. BE it! DO it! All with LOVE! And, peace be unto YOU! Namaste. #BeDoLove #FindYourZen #BirthAndLiveYourSoulFULLPurpose #JuicySweetSpot #HealingEqualsFreedom #AllRoadsLeadToMentalHealth #SuperSoulSunday

🎶I Know You Heard Me on the Radio. TRRUUUUEEEE!!!🎶 – Please Tune In Tue. May 8

Please tune in this Tuesday, May 8th 2pm-3pm EST for a special one hour Inside Out LGBT Radio Show on DC’s WPFW-FM. Producer and host Kathryn Boxill’s topic is “Empowering Our Children to Heal and Thrive Through Mindfulness and Socio-Emotional Development”.

We’ll discuss how often our children lose sight of their authentic power resulting in their stunted growth as a result of dealing with stress, anxiety, and issues from home and community, to succeeding and excelling academically, and from the all-consuming social media outlets. Resulting in self-esteem issues of “Am I enough?”, “I’m not pretty”. “I’m different.”

Typically the emotional challenges adults face began very early in childhood. The show will focus on how we can shift the narrative to empowering our children to heal and thrive through mindfulness and socio-emotional development. Growing and thriving into emotionally and mentally healthy adults. Our special guests will be author/writer and educator Ashley Williams of Infinite Focus, Inc. and Truancy/Attendance Counselor with DC Public Schools and Pastor of Open Door Metropolitan Community Church Rev. Wendy Hamilton.

Please share, tune in, and call in at 202-588-0893. Especially to educators and parents. Resurrecting Oneself on This Beautiful Resurrection Day

Resurrection12

Interesting that today (repost from 2015) is Easter/Resurrection Day.

Resurrection11Last night I had the pleasure of attending a gathering, where the two beautiful women who invited me to their lovely, beautiful and comfortable DC home were such gracious hostesses. It was one of those older, yet welcoming homes in a quaint DC neighborhood. A home filled with such character and soothing creaking wood floors. It’s the kind of home that I sometimes imagine myself creating a life and love in. My funky and cool sanctity where there is comforting stability, endless peace, melodic harmony, and unconditional love. That comes with reliable house cleaners, landscapers, and handy-persons.Oak Tree in DC

While there I witnessed the most humongous, bold, and beautiful oak tree in their spacious backyard. That Resurrection9commanding big oak could have been quite intimidating, however, it calmed me and created such a soothing smile on my face as I just stood there in awe and silence observing its beauty as I attempted to take it all in. The oak reminded me that regardless of all that goes on in life, there is always the opportunity to stand tall, still shine, awe, and inspire me and all who I encounter.

The bonus of the evening was of the lovely couple sharing their wedding video with all who were in attendance. The lovelies were still glowing from their recent ceremony while sharing the backstory of their relationship and wedding day commentary. I found myself having one of my typical Hallmark movie moments as I watched them both fiercely wardrobe change their way through the video from beginning to the end all while lovingly and attentively engaged with themselves, family, and friends. While witnessing their special moment, I was reminded of love.  I was reminded of hope. I was reminded of authentic connection. I was reminded of Divine Order.  I was reminded of commitment. I was reminded of being open to the possibilities when one of the lovelies spoke of how getting married was not at all on her radar. I was reminded of perseverance when they both spoke about the struggles encountered with family, friends, and strangers because of the resistance to their unconditional love. I was reminded of forgiveness. I was reminded of fun. I was reminded of being sexy. After the emotionally challenging previous night and the current day I was having, I knew at that moment that the Universe sent me here to receive all of these uplifting messages. Especially when one of the lovelies looked at me later and said I can see in your eyes that you are next. Now whether that is true or not (in terms of being next, not that it won’t ever happen), it was just nice to hear and it was reaffirming. It was nice experiencing through their love; they are reaching out and wanting to inspire others to also have it all. To live one’s truth and believe.Resurrection8

During that made for me evening, as I navigated in and out of various conversations, dined on deliciously seasoned and nicely spicy African food of curried rice and fish stew, sipped on tasty lemon drop cocktails, and witnessed their wonderful wedding video, I was reminded about love, reinventing myself, and how it’s never too late to have what I want. I must believe. Keep having hope. Keep the faith. I must keep resurrecting my life, heart, spirit, and soul.

I was reminded that “I am the prize.” And, one of the many messages I was sent to tell you today is that you are too. That in all of the complexities and imperfections of our lives and being, that we are perfect in who we are and are deserving.

There is a gift for resurrecting oneself. The gift is of getting back to the basics of love while being open to the newness of life. So today and ALWAYS continue to resurrect yourself and flow through life and experiences with confidence, grace, authenticity, openness, respect, a colossal sense of humor, beauty, forgiveness, sexiness, trust, honor, and unconditional LOVE!!! And, you will, in turn, attract to your life what you truly desire and what the Universe knows that will nourish and resurrect you in your truth.  Believe that you WILL be resurrected to the essence of your being and beingness. ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!!! Ase!Resurrection4

L&S, may God continue to bless and blanket you both with love, light, and fun. Thank you so much for last night and being such gracious messengers and torchbearers of BeDoLove. I dedicate this blog to you both and all who are inspired by their committed love.

Namaste! kcb

Our Children are Suffering – Parents, Pediatricians and Everyone Show UP

I’m amazed at the number of children suffering from anxiety and stressed the f*k out. Even amongst parents I know. The pressures of school (gotta get that 1,000,000,000,000… SAT score), activity after activity, social media, and isolation (because often times there is little interaction outside of school, texting, video games, and social media) are debilitating and exhausting. Social media alone creates this environment of sending out ones representation to show how great and on a grand scale life is when it really isn’t. Even with me folks may have the impression that everything is all adventurously wonderful, having no clue about my worries or the tears I shed.

With the rising child suicide and shooting incidents, it’s increasingly important to pay close attention to our children. Monitoring not only if they have a 10.2 GPA, but for their mental health. Not taking them being stressed or having anxiety as just par for the course. We need the village on assignment to include parents, friends, aunties, doctors, teachers, and MORE CAPABLE, DEDICATED, AND ENGAGED MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES IN OUR SCHOOLS (they have our children most of the day). Sidebar: And, not thinking the pills (Given responsibility for monitoring medication dosage before they are even 21.) are the only healing properties for them.

According to a newly released study and guidelines, did you know, “Depression is a growing threat to American children and teens. As many as 1 in 5 teens experience depression at some point during adolescence, but parents often miss the clues, and as many as two out of three young people with depression go undiagnosed, research shows.

With the new guidelines, pediatricians are being asked to more carefully screen their patients ages 12 and over during their annual checkups.

The guidelines encourage pediatricians to talk to their young patients alone — teens may be more open about their feelings without a parent in the room — and then talk separately with parents or caregivers. If the doctor determines that the teen has moderate or severe depression, the pediatrician can offer treatment or consultation with a mental health specialist.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, other signs of adolescent or teen depression include:

* sleep problems (they often sleep more)

* loss of interest in friends

* changes in appetite

* hopeless or guilty thoughts

* changes in body movements, such as feeling edgy or slowed down

* frequent physical illnesses

But any of these signs could also simply be part of the emotional bumps of being an adolescent. An important clue is whether the symptoms last at least two weeks or longer.” Read more in detail here: https://www.today.com/health/all-teens-should-be-screened-depression-new-guidelines-urge-t123889

https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2018/02/26/588334959/pediatrians-call-for-universal-depression-screening-for-teens

So please wake up for the babies need us. They need love, nurturing, self-love, and scoping skills. Hug them. Love them. Affirm them. Spend quality time with them. Pay attention. Ask the hard and uncomfortable questions. Be intrusive. Listen. Pull yourself out the self-absorption of trying to paint the picture of the perfect family and life. There’s zero room for pride, shame or ego. Remember one out of five, look to your left and look to your right. Avoid projecting your stress and worries on to your children. And, if you think they don’t know or don’t feel it, you’re sooooo wrong. Don’t act like you don’t know something is wrong. You can’t fix everything, seek appropriate resources. And, while we’re at it “How are you doing?” Yeah, you’re mental health matters too. See projecting statement. Oh! And, how is that friend or family member you speak with almost every day? Yeah, them too. We all need checking in on. Be well lovelies. Be well. #BeDoLove #AllRoadsLeadToMentalHealth #FindYourZen

Grateful for the Opportunity to Honor Love EVERYDAY

❤️💛💚💙💜❤️💛💚💙💜

Valentine’s Day, of course, always brings up all things in the name of LOVE!  “Love is You”, by Chrisette Michele certainly comes to mind for me. It is such a beautiful and melodic song with the message of love beyond the obvious. ♫♪ What’s your definition of it? How does it make you feel? Tell me what you say that truly makes it real. Kings and Queens, Philosophers have tried so hard to find. Tell me what it means to you dear, nevermind…♫♪

Today and ALWAYS I am grateful for love. All kinds of beautiful, belly butterflies, and yet to be discovered moments of love. That falling in love with life all over again kind of love. Let me first clarify. I’m not just talking about that mushy goo goo eye romantic kind of love (although I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that mushy goo goo eye romantic kind of love) which has one angelically gliding to the moon and back. Or the kind of love that sometimes is not really expressed until Valentine’s Day. But, what I’m referring to is love of life;

Love of Mother, Father, God, The Universe. Love for the creation of my all knowing soul.

Love of discovering the newness of life and all that the world has to offer through new eyes that open with the rising of a new bright and beautiful sun. Love of the beauty and wonder of nature. Love of the sound of waves from a silent ocean. Love of a beautiful, vibrant, and scented flower blooming. Love of traveling and discovering near or far. Love of the 150mph adrenaline rush I experience through those crazy and what the heck are you doing invited fear induced adventures culminating with YES! I did it moments.

Love of living and growing with that specially made for me human being. Love of that heart thumping first soft lips kiss that makes me melt like butter baby. Love of that voice that does something yummy inside of me when I hear it. Love of that first look or touch that makes my heart go pitter patter and how it continues at unsuspecting moments throughout our time. Love of fun and playful making out moments. Love of hot, passionate, and free flowing love making sessions. Love of healing, growing, and birthing visions and SoulFULL purposes together.

Love of the innocence of a child who stands to teach me so much if I would just take the time to be still and look and listen to them. Love of an elder who reminds me through their wisdom and life experiences that life is truly meant for the living and that not even a second is to be wasted. Love of remembering those who have transitioned and knowing their spirit still lives on and guides me.

Love of being free to be ME! Love of being at utter peace. Love of being perfectly imperfect. Love of uncontrolled laughter that joyfully pains yet heals my gut. Love of abandoned silliness. Love of sweet vulnerability and grace. Love of unconditional love. Love of just being in the moment.

Love of divinely ordered connections. Love of family in all of their greatness and dysfunction. Love of longtime friendships where I am able to just be who I am meant to be. Love of a new found friendship where I’m being open to living life in a new and profound way. Love of inspiring another to do the same.

Love of tears. Love of keeping it real. Love of what is and what will never be and being okay with that. Love of my broken heart knowing one day through forgiveness it will be healed to love fully again. Love of when I have the courage to put on my big girl panties in uncomfortable situations. Love of self even when I’ve lost my way.

Love of a delicious dish that increasingly tantalizes my tongue with each and every mouthful. Love of discovering each and every swirling note from a wonderful poured full of legs glass of wine. Love of nurturing self and others through my chefing.

Love of destined soul mates. Love of all mankind. Love of being in contribution. Love of receiving with abundant gratitude. Love of selfless giving.

Love of boundless creativity. Love of endless possibilities. Love of the unknown. Love of faith. Love of breathing and living out dreams. Love of a fulfilling career. Love of financial stability and being able to comfortably pay my bills. Love of abundance. Love of gratitude.

Love of a refreshing much required nap in the middle of a lazy day. Love of music and dancing that makes me feel alive, and revives and heals my spirit.

Love of the scent of a favorite perfume placed on those perfect pulsing spots. Love of sexy swag that makes me go “Ummm!  Ummm!  Ummm!”. Love of knowing I look amazing in a hawt and sexy outfit, a business suit, or just wearing my favorite sweats. Love of my fitted jeans and funky boots. Love of my body encompassing all of its curvy curves.

Love of pure honesty with self and others. Love of respect. Love of forgiving. Love of affirming, acknowledging, acknowledgement, and accountability. Love of trust with no evidence. And, I can go on and on and on…

Love is so much and means so much. It’s infinite. But, simply “Love is life”. As my man Luther Vandross (man I miss him) and Gregory Hines smoothly sang to us with “There’s Nothing Better Than Love”, ♫♪ There’s nothing better than love. What in the world could you ever be thinking of? ♫♪ Without love we are doomed.

On this Valentine’s Day I wish you all love now and for ALWAYS!!! I also charge you to expand your thoughts and feelings of what love is to you and create your own list and perhaps share a couple here. Whether you have someone special and/or you are your special know you are loved. And, remember to be good to you and to others with love way beyond this festive day of love. Be a gift today and ALWAYS! Be love today and ALWAYS! BeDoLove! I love you. Namaste. –kcb #BeDoLove #FindYourZen #BirthAndLiveYourSoulFULLPurpose #JuicySweetSpot #HealingEqualsFreedom

It’s Yabba Dabba Doooooo February & Friday

It’s a Yabba Dabba Doooooo February & Friday:

Fred: Man did they change January to more than 31 days?

Me: Nah Fred. But, we know what you mean. It went on for what seemed like FOREVER!

Fred: Selfie Time? 🤓

Me: It’s been a minute.

Fred: Your do (hair) is popping. And, you always smell so good.

Me: Why thank you Fred. Vonetta Dumas of Signature Image Salon in DC got my natural proper and fresh, with the dope part. Did you hear the boss say “Now I know why you left work early.” 😳

Fred: DOH!!! No he didn’t.

Fred: Hmm… When we took the pic your waist seemed less…

Me: FRED! Actually, thanks for noticing. You’re so good at that. I’ve been doing a detox curated by Chef Nina B of Love Dynasty since last Tuesday and it’s about to end.

Fred: Ohhhhh! That’s the smoothies and juices I’ve watched you gulping down. That’s awesome. It’s working. I’ve noticed you’ve been more alert and happy.

Me: Taking necessary and desired self-care measures.

Fred: We should all practice self-care. And, exhaling. And, with that it’s time for you to knock this day out. ONWARD to declaring and claiming that you and all the lovelies are going to have the most amazing, productive, beautiful, loving, freeing, graceful, engaged, powerful, affirming, I got this, trusting, believing, authentic, organic, take no ish, love em anyway, fun “Yabba Dabba Do” day, week, month, year, and life.

Me: Love the message Fred. Here’s to self-care. Self-caring. Affirming of self and others. Being. Empowerment. Fun. And, FREEEEEDOM! Let’s GO! Love and Peace to all. #BeDoLove #FindYourZen #BirthAndLiveYourSoulFULLPurpose #MyReadersHappenToCoordinate #SpeakOnItFred
