Pop Saturday Gratitude Reminder

I received the cutest gratitude/thank you card from Pop this week, which inspired a big smiley face. And, inspiration to case the fridge for vittles and WALLAH, a delicious brunch.

– Cajun Crab Quiche (Amish Market).

– Random Mini Eggo Waffles. Bought them a few weeks ago after many years of not doing so because of embracing the waffle iron. Darn commercials reminded me of their loving crispy edge goodness.

– Doctored up the syrup with juicy, sweet cherries.

– Oh, and created a wine spritz of sorts with Hogue Late Harvest Riesling and Dry Vanilla Bean (Required some sparkle.).

Next up is Nag Champa, dreaming about day trips, and Master of None (Oooooo I wish I could hang and dine with him.) binge time. Oh, and that fan for if and when the wine or just life kicks in.

Today I am reminded to be present and not allow myself to be consumed by the heaviness of life. So to you (and me) I say, be grateful, be well, be safe, have fun, laugh, create something magical, and enjoy life my lovelies. It is truly the only one we got. Right now. In this moment. Exhale! Breathe! Cheers! Enjoy! Love! Peace! #BeDoLove #Yummyliciousness #IChefToWriteAboutIt #FindYourZen #BirthAndLiveYourSOULfullPurpose

Dream Hard or Stay Up – The Tree, Car, Visitor, Noose, Etc.

Early Saturday morning I had a dream that me and a dear female friend (choosing not to say who) were outside of her house (An attached single family home.) and we were laying on the hood of her white car. Looking up at the sky and taking on what was a beautiful sunny day. We were in good spirits and real chill. Like laying on the hood was the norm. Sidebar: Friend doesn’t live in this type of house or have a white car.

There was a driveway right next to the house. But, the car was parked on the street right before the driveway and the house. On the same side of the street facing the house with it directly in our view.

There was an interesting shaped tree in the front of the house. Especially at the top of it. It didn’t have any leaves, but it was still beautiful, strong, and in an interesting shape. I was in awe of it. I asked my friend if she ever noticed the beauty of the tree and she said yes. I look back at it and notice the top of the tree now has a shape of a person holding or doing something (in the dream I knew what it was doing or holding. I don’t remember now.). But, I’m excited and just as I’m asking her to look, a male and female arrive at her house and are at the door. She begins a conversation with them, while we are still on the hood of the car and they on the porch.

I look back up at the tree, and the shape of the person and thing I saw moves. It turned its head to look my way for a quick second and then assumed position as if it didn’t happen. I’m in “oh shyt” shock. And, was trying to get my friend’s attention, but the visitors were walking towards the car. The gentleman (handsome, slim, average height, fair skin, pretty eyes, mustache – woman didn’t have much of a presence) is talking to her and smiling. They seem familiar.

I look back and now the tree has taken a different form closer to the middle of it. The tree was at a distance before, but now feels much closer to me. It forms something else and I see a noose. Which now I’m scared and not being able to get anyone’s attention to witness what I’m seeing.

I can’t remember what happened next or if I just woke up. But, I was the only one that saw all of this. And, I’m now thinking through this as dreams can be very interesting messengers. Or they can just be a wild and bizarre imagination going wild in the REM state. Who knows?!?! 😉 Do you? See dream interpretation below. #BeDoLove #FindYourZen #BirthAndLiveYourSOULfullPurpose #GangstaDreamer #DreamHardorStayUp

Dream Interpretation:

Sky

– To look up at the clear blue sky in your dream, denotes hope, possibilities, creativity, peace and freedom of expression. As the saying goes “the sky’s the limit.”

Tree

– To see bare trees in your dream indicate used up energy. You have put your all into some relationship or project and now you are exhausted. Perhaps you are even feeling depressed. Alternatively, the dream signifies the cycle of life or the passage of time.

Car
– To dream of a white car implies that you are on a new path.

– (Not sure if that applies as we were on the car.) To see a parked car in your dream, suggests that you need to turn your efforts and energies elsewhere. You may be needlessly spending your energy in a fruitless endeavor. Alternatively, a parked car may symbolize your need to stop and enjoy life.

Visitor

– To have a visitor in your dream, signifies that some important news or information will soon be revealed to you. It may also suggest that love is just around the corner. Alternatively, a visitor indicates that you are experiencing a new phase in your life.

Noose

– To see a noose in your dream, represents your lack of independence. You feel restricted and restrained from being able to express yourself.

Update – My Friend Lisa’s Interpretation: This is deep. So you are feeling restricted and exhausted and want to take a new path to more fully explore this new phase of your life, which you believe is brimming with new possibilities and possibly love? ❤️

Honoring Cool A$$ Jim Vance

As a child, I noticed my love of writing and the swag and delivery of broadcast journalists that both caught my eye and heart. I was that so called weird kid who loved watching the evening news while growing up in Brooklyn, NY. Ernie Arnastos and Warner Wolf were my dudes. When I arrived in DC to attend Howard University, that local news and sports dynamic duo became Jim Vance and George Michaels. Sidebar: While at Howard I planned to major in journalism and become a Broadcast Journalist. That’s another story for another day.

Jim and Michael were amazing at what they did. But, more important, they allowed us to connect with and experience their human sides, the good and challenging. Such special men who not only informed us, taught us, let us have peeks into their amazing lives, but also made us laugh, laugh, laugh. The funniest ish was the day they played the video of the runway model repeatedly falling and the commentary and belly laughs that followed. The first time I found the video online after the initial broadcast, I played it over and over again. Pure hilarity and goofiness at its finest. “Whoa, whoa…” Enjoy! Warning: Don’t have food or drink in your mouth while you watch this. https://youtu.be/_0eINGyJHz8

With that said, thank you Jim (Yesterday he like Michael, succumbed to cancer) for the lessons of:

– Healing = Freedom and it’s never too late for the little boy and girl in all of us to heal and be free. And, that we should seek help for our addictions and mental health issues. In a 2015 interview with his news’ partner and friend Doreen Gentzler, Jim spoke about his decision to go get psychiatric help as a result of depression, “That is one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. For which I am most grateful, because it had one of the most profound impacts on my life.” http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/health/Jim-Vance-Opens-Up-About-His-Battle-With-Depression_Washington-DC-303846981.html

– It’s NEVER too late to birth your dreams and LIVE them. Hey, it was 2016 and I was 49 when I was serendipitously offered a spot as a producer and co-host on WPFW-FM’s Inside Out LGBT Radio show. 🎶Fairy tales can come true. It can happen for you. If you’re young at heart…🎶

– Life will knock you down, but it’s all about how you rise up from the pain with grace to be a blessing.

– Find those people, places, or things you love and allow them to bring joy to your life and you to theirs. I was in awe and inspired the first time I saw Jim riding a motorcycle all swagged out.

– You can be professional, intelligent, transparent, vulnerable, cool, and goofy all in the same space. That’s true freedom.

– The power of living life with love, joy, and grace. Jim did that to the very end as he battled cancer and was honored and recognized at the new mural unveiling on the wall of Ben’s Chili Bowl. https://youtu.be/DR6sumxGw84. Thank you Aniekan Udofia for the creative, beautiful and amazing gifts of art you continue to bless us, DC, and all the world with.

– Find a buddy(ies) and laugh, laugh, laugh.

My prayers go out to Doreen Gentzler and the rest of the NBC Washington news family and community at large who mourn the loss of Jim and his beautiful infectious spirit.

Check out more about the life of Jim along with the beautiful tributes from his news’ family. http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/News4-Anchor-Jim-Vance-Dies-at-75-436001373.html

Jim, Much love and peace to your spirit and soul. We love and appreciate you for your gift(s), love, and how you inspired. May you and George catch up over the news (so much to talk about), laughs, jazz, and cigars. You’re going to be one heck of a Gangsta Angel. Thank YOU! Love! Ase. #BeDoLove #FindYourZen #BirthAndLiveYourSOULfullPurpose #JimVance #NBCWashington

PS: Jim, My laughing buddy (Man, do I miss that from the gut laugh) and now Gangsta Angel Ron Davis’ birthday is today. He’s a smart, cool, and goofy dude like you. Give him a birthday hug and dap him up for me. Love!

🎶I’ll Always Love My Mama! She’s My Favorite Girl!🎶

During my recent Inside Out LGBT Radio show on DC’s WPFW-FM, I was honored to have the opportunity to interview three beautiful mothers (Tennille, Orleana, and Camille) in our community.

No fear. If you missed the show, here is the recorded link. You can listen at home, at your desk, while driving, preparing dinner… Come back and let us know your thoughts. http://archive.wpfwfm.org/mp3/wpfw_170711_140002lmpab.mp3

The show centered around unique and fascinating stories of motherhood that my guests were excited to share. I’m hoping the audience were interested and intrigued in listening and learning about the human experience and perspective of what it is like in 2017 to be a mother in same sex relationships.

The big takeaways from the show is that because people make different choices in who they choose to partner with, doesn’t eliminate the desire to parent. Maternal instincts still kick in and biological clocks tick. Whether one chooses to carry or adopt, the gift of motherhood is one of a selfless love that when it comes from a place of unconditional love, the gift of life is just that. A divinely ordered gift of life that no good intentioned human being should ever be denied. Yet they and their child or children should be honored and embraced with love, compassion, and support.

We thank Tennille, Orleana, and Camille for being wonderful women and mothers. Thank you for visiting Inside Out and providing your transparent insight, and beautiful and fun energies. And, thank you for being an example for our community and world to experience and see that love is love. And, that we all can have it, honor it, and respect it.

Thank you all for the love and support. Make it a safe and beautiful day. Be great. Be courageous. Be Bold. BeDoLove! Happy Pride! Love! #WPFW #InsideOutRadio #BeDoLove #FindYourZen #SoulFULLPurpose #JuicySweetSpot

Authentically YOU & FREE!

The word authenticity resonates with me daily. Especially at this time in my 1/2 century life (YUKES!). But whether 50 or 25, it’s so important to live from a place of being and revealing your true self from sun up to sundown. Not that unfulfilled, angry, sad, depressed, living in shame, self-medicating, diseased induced, and suffocating representative you send out to defend yourself with reckless abandon. “Until you do right by me…”

It’s not effortless. Living authentically often means many opportunities for being uncomfortably vulnerable, while fearlessly exhaling each precious breath with no worries about how it’s going to look, be perceived, or feel. However, the rewards are plentiful when being able to come from a place of self-love, which ultimately brings about the freedom we so desire and deserve. It’s also an act of love for those in your life, because they get to experience and connect with YOU in an intimate and true way, which in-turn can be the gift of freedom by giving permission to others to also unleash their true selves.

As you unlock the prison gates of your conflicting personas and allow you to run barefoot in the fields of the color purple, many won’t get it and YOU. And, that’s okay. But, have solace in that room will be made for those that do, when you and your SoulFULL Purpose evolves and shines.

Oh! And, there is no room for perfection here. Authenticity will not always be pretty. But, the beautiful and bright rainbows appearing after the hurricanes can lead to an abundantly blessed life of learning, growing, understanding, compassion, patience, integrity, healing, grace, love, joy, fun, and FREEDOM! Evolving one step at a time. One moment at a time. One day at a time. One sunrise to sunset at a time. So do YOU Boo! Namaste. ONWARD!!! #BeDoLove #FindYourZen #SoulFULLPurpose

Blessings in Whispers – Tiger Got a Life Line

Do you believe that sometimes the situations we deem the worst thing that could have happened to you could have been the best thing that could have happened for you?

I saw the Tiger Wood on the side of the road video the other day. http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/31/us/tiger-woods-dui-arrest-dashcam-video/index.html. Dude was not in a good way. Not only was he incoherent, he also had at least one punctured tire. Yet many prefer to focus on that he got arrested. It’s typical folk wanting to sweep what’s most important under the rug all for the sake of how it looks. It’s why so many of our people and families are in turmoil. We look good. We’re dressed pretty. We’re making six figures. Got a nice house. So that makes everything okay when we know it’s not.

I’ve learned that God will send whispers with messages about it being time to get your life right. To get you off the road to nowhere good, on to the path of living your SoulFULL purpose. The more you ignore them, the whispers will get increasingly louder and the lessons will become harder. This is until the thunder is dropped on you to finally get your attention. And, what I do know is the pain that follows when the thunder booms. The key is when that happens to finally listen, feel, deal, heal, and move forth to where you are being directed. Where the true blessing waits for you with bated breath.

Think if Tiger hadn’t been found by the police and arrested. He probably would have woke up and called his people. Got scooped up and went on with his life business as usual. Maybe getting arrested is the wake up call he needed so he’s not the next Michael Jackson or Prince. And, think about that this could be the cry for help he needed to save not only his life, but some unfortunate soul who could be in the line of fire the next time he’s DUI. I don’t know what happened to cause the punctured tire, but he or someone else could be dead right now.

Trust I’m not downplaying or up playing Tiger’s situation. The reality is his celebrity does not exempt him from being human. And, many of us forget that we as humans are all flawed. I don’t know pain the way he is experiencing pain. He’s struggled quite a bit personally (death of loved ones and relationships and addiction) and professionally. But, what I do know is we never have to walk this road alone. Whether struggling with physical, mental, and/or emotional pain, we must seek out and find those trusted souls who can support, help in our healing, and love up on us. And, we must be open to those who come to us or we see that require our unconditional love. Vulnerability must outlive and outlast pride and ego. Because, when you’re laying in that casket (or someone else is) it won’t matter how it looks.

The time is now. Your time is now. My time is now. Our time is now for you are not alone. We can get there together. We can be free together. Surrender! Surrender! Surrender! Healing = Freedom! Namaste. #BeDoLove #FindYourZen #SoulFULLPurpose

Taking a Stand for Pride, Justice, and Equality

During my recent Inside Out LGBT Radio show on DC’s WPFW-FM, I was honored to have the opportunity to interview three dynamic local and national activists through their amazing work with the DC Mayor’s Office, Black Pride, The Equality March for Unity and Pride, and the Women in the Life Association.

My guest were:

-Sheila Reid, Director of LGBTQ Affairs for DC’s Mayor Muriel Bowser and Board President, Women in the Life Association

-Earl Fowlkes, President/CEO, Center for Black Equity, Inc.

-Khadijah Tribble, Local DC Chair, Equality March and Executive and Executive Director, Women in the Life Association

No fear. If you missed the show, here is the recorded link. You can listen at home, at your desk, while driving, preparing dinner… Come back and let us know your thoughts. http://archive.wpfwfm.org/mp3/wpfw_170509_140002lmpab.mp3

The show centered around “The Evolution of Black Pride and How We Fit in (or Don’t) with the Upcoming Equality March”. The discussion focused around how each of the show’s guests are advocating for the Black LGBTQ community. And, what the community can do to grow and thrive as a united force and together with the mainstream LGBTQ 🏳️‍🌈community.

The big takeaways from the show is if there is no voice and action there is no progress. And, that ain’t nothing wrong with some partying, but with a purpose is important. Organizations such as Black Pride (DC May 26-29), Women in the Life Association, Black Lives Matter, and those leading the movement through the Women’s March and upcoming Equality March (June 11) are amazing organizations designed to provide opportunities to connect with like-minded people through advocacy, social justice, and entertainment. But, as they say, there’s strength in numbers and each and every one of us are needed to participate in the advancement of our human rights individually and as a community. And, with this current administration, it’s even more important that we become a united movement. Whether you march or not, find your voice (that can be just by voting). This is YOUR way to make a difference (for you, your family, community, and world) because we need you as we strive for dignity, respect, and equality for ALL.

We thank Sheila, Earl and Khadijah as they personally and professionally continue to be consistent stands for the LGBTQ community. And, thank you for visiting Inside Out and providing your insight, and beautiful and fun energies. Please visit their sites for upcoming events and how to participate. Each have workshops, seminars, marches, and/or sources of entertainment coming up this week and beyond. http://womeninthelife.org/. http://www.dcblackpride.orghttp://www.equalitymarch2017.com.
