Adventures of a Healing HAWT Caregiver – Pour Into YOU

With boot season unofficially over, I ventured out for my first pedicure since pre-pandemic. I desiring a nice yummylicious pedicure. And, yummylicious it was as LaToya at Fiona Nail Lounge (next door to Parkway Deli in Silver Spring) worked her magic to include a sugar scrub and hot stone massage. It was my first time having a hot stone massage on my feet and what I was looking most forward to. Thanks Danielle for the recommendation. Self-care and self-love are necessary for your physical and mental health, especially in these pandemic streets. Our lives and sanity thrive on acts of self-care, especially with those things we love to do, which I call my “sweet spots.” While, LaToya said I did a good job taking care of my feet during the pandemic, it felt so good getting out and being pampered. Oh, and being touched. OOOOO WEEEEE!!! I emerged feeling refreshed and renewed with my yummylicious Fred Flintstone Yabba dabba do feet and toes 🤪, which I inherited from Pop (RIP).

Often times self-care is overshadowed by the multi-tasking and overwhelmingness of life. And, being a caregiver adds another level of lack of exhale time. Self-care may mean being okay asking others for support to include time for you to get away even if for an hour. This means releasing the conversation of not wanting to burden others or thinking you may seem weak or selfish for thinking of you and for making the request. We must be mindful and purposeful with our well being and caring for our mind, body, and spirit. If not that self-imposed “S” on your chest will have to fight your developing severe illnesses such as depression, high blood pressure, diabetes, and/or cancer. Ask me how I know as I’m still working through these panic/anxiety attacks. Caregiving during COVID was a bytch.

Oh! I also recently participated in creative therapy. I’ll come back to share about that.

Repeat after me, I matter. My needs matter. My health matters. My self-care matters. My life matters. I desire and deserve PLEASURE, JOY, FUN, and LOVE!

While fighting for and nurturing others, take the time (even if brief) to love up on and pour into you too. Trust, I know it may not come easy, but it’s necessary. Take time to do something good for YOU in this new rebirthing season of Spring. Allowing hope, faith, and love to be your guides. Pause! Breathe Deeply! Exhale Long! Repeat! Enjoy!
